Audi: history and identity
August Horch founded Audi in 1909–1910 in Zwickau. “Audi” is the Latin translation of his name: “Horch” means “listen”. In 1932, Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer joined together in Auto Union: these are the four rings. The headquarters are in Ingolstadt. The slogan “Vorsprung durch Technik” has been used since 1971.
In 1980, Audi presented the quattro and its permanent all-wheel drive at the Geneva Motor Show. Audi won the 24 Hours of Le Mans 13 times between 2000 and 2014. RS models are developed by Audi Sport.

Buy a used Audi in Switzerland: checks
Compare the service book, invoices and mileage. Verify the gearbox type: manual, torque-converter automatic or dual-clutch, as applicable. Check whether the engine uses petrol, diesel or a hybrid system. Electric versions need different checks.
Establish whether the car was Swiss-delivered or imported. For an imported car, ask for proof of customs clearance (Federal Office for Customs and Border Security, FOCBS). Then confirm type approval and registration with your cantonal road traffic office. Request the MFK report and an independent inspection.

Frequently asked questions
- How should I compare prices?
Check asking prices in current listings on 80k. Compare similar versions and service histories. These prices do not prove completed sale amounts.
- Is a warranty included?
Check each offer individually. Request written terms, exclusions and transfer rules. The brand name alone does not establish coverage.
- Which model should I choose?
Start with your intended use, seating needs and maintenance budget. Then compare engines and test-drive your shortlisted versions.
- What should I check for the MFK?
Request the latest inspection report and any import documents. Confirm requirements with your cantonal road traffic office. The MFK does not replace a pre-purchase inspection.
