Buy a used Land Rover in Switzerland : checks

Compare the service book, invoices and mileage. Check the gearbox: manual or automatic, depending on the car. Check the fuel or powertrain: petrol, diesel or hybrid, depending on the version. These categories do not describe available listings.

Confirm whether the car was Swiss-delivered when new or imported later. For an imported car, ask for proof of customs clearance (Federal Office for Customs and Border Security, FOCBS). Then confirm type approval and registration with your cantonal road traffic office.

Check any warranty: provider, term, exclusions and transfer rules. Ask the official dealer network whether a used-car programme exists and whether this car qualifies.

Request the latest MFK report and check cantonal rules. Arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection too.

Frequently asked questions

How should I compare prices?

Check asking prices in current listings on 80k. Compare similar versions and service histories. These prices do not prove completed sale amounts.

Is a warranty included?

Check each offer individually. Request written terms, exclusions and transfer rules. The brand name alone does not establish coverage.

Which model should I choose?

Start with your intended use, seating needs and maintenance budget. Then compare engines and test-drive your shortlisted versions.

What should I check for the MFK?

Request the latest inspection report and any import documents. Confirm requirements with your cantonal road traffic office. The MFK does not replace a pre-purchase inspection.
