Founded in 1952, Austin-Healey is a British brand specializing in sports cars. Its existence is based on a partnership between two men: Leonard Lord, head of the Austin Motor Company branch within BMC, and Donald Healey, a recognized figure in motorsport and design.

It was at the inaugural evening of the Earls Court Motor Show, in October 1952, that the outlines of this collaboration became clear. The public enthusiastically discovered the prototype of what would become the Austin-Healey 100.

Twenty years of production The brand ceased production in 1972, at the expiration of the agreement signed twenty years earlier. Donald Healey had already distanced himself by 1968, after BMC – then merged with Jaguar under British Motor Holdings – was integrated into British Leyland.

Today, the brand rights are held by the Chinese group Nanjing Automobile Corporation, which took over MG Rover after its bankruptcy in 2005. In parallel, Donald Healey had founded Healey Automobile Consultants, a structure that remained within the family until 2005, then sold to HFI Automotive.

A remarkable sporting record Austin-Healey distinguished itself numerous times in competition.

In the United States, the brand won four times in the SCCA championship D Production category (1954, 1957, 1958, 1959), won the G Production title in 1963, then secured three crowns in H Production (1961, 1963, 1964). Driver Ronnie Bucknum achieved 54 victories at the wheel of an Austin-Healey.

In Europe, Clay Regazzoni won the Swiss Hill Climb Championship in 1964.
