Ferrari F512 M: the last series-production flat-12

Used Ferrari F512 M in Switzerland. 0 listings currently presented.

The Ferrari F512 M closes the lineage opened by the Testarossa. The “M” for Modificata signals a thorough rework of the 512 TR. It has fixed headlights under a clear cover and a redesigned bonnet. Its NACA ducts are air inlets recessed into the surface.

The rear panel is smooth, with four round taillights.

Only 501 examples were built, making it the rarest of the three variants. It is the last series-production Ferrari with a mid-mounted flat-twelve: an engine with twelve cylinders laid flat.

Classic cars sit alongside recent premium models. If a trade seller has been checked, their vehicle page clearly shows the matching badge.

Why the F512 M matters

  • The last series-production flat-12 Ferrari: the end of an era.
  • Only 501 examples: the rarest of the Testarossa family.
  • 440 hp at 6,750 rpm, 500 Nm of torque, 89 hp per litre.
  • Five-speed manual gearbox with a revised, more precise linkage.

A thoroughly reworked flat-12

The 4.9-litre engine gains titanium connecting rods and forged pistons. The rods link the pistons to the crankshaft. The compression ratio rises to 10.4:1. This ratio describes how much the engine compresses its mixture. Bosch Motronic M2.7 controls injection and ignition.

Dry-sump lubrication stores oil in a separate tank. Each bank, or row of cylinders, has twin overhead camshafts. These shafts control the valves from above. Each cylinder has four valves. This is racing engineering for the road.

Chassis and handling

The Koni dampers are lighter. The hubs, at the centre of the wheels, are aluminium. Brake discs are drilled and ventilated. ABS prevents the wheels from locking under braking. The chassis uses steel tubes.

Rack-and-pinion steering uses a toothed bar to pass steering inputs to the wheels. The F512 M retains the family's imposing dimensions. Yet it feels notably livelier when driven with intent.

What to check before buying in Switzerland

  • Full service history: timing belts, clutch and invoices from a Ferrari specialist.
  • Authenticity: matching numbers, service book, tool kit and original documentation.
  • Condition of the dry-sump system and Koni dampers. Also check gearbox synchros, which match shaft speeds during gear changes.
  • Mileage consistent with invoices and successive inspections.
